About adhesives & sealants
The right adhesive is the difference between a floor that lasts and one that peels at the edges after 18 months. Modern flooring adhesives are engineered for specific pairings — LVT to concrete, engineered wood to ply, carpet to gripper. Using the wrong one, or too little, causes 90% of premature floor failures.
Pros
- +Professional-grade bond that outlasts the floor above
- +Correct pairing dramatically reduces callback failures
- +Water-based acrylics: low-VOC, safe for interior use
- +Pressure-sensitive tack: reposition planks during the working time
Trade-offs
- −Wrong adhesive = failure. LVT adhesive on wood, wood adhesive on LVT — both fail
- −Under-trowelling = bald spots and lifting edges
- −Working time is short — plan the layout before mixing
FAQs
Can I use one adhesive for everything?
No. Each floor type demands a specific chemistry. Using LVT adhesive on wood, or vice versa, causes bond failure within months.
How long before I can walk on a glued floor?
Foot traffic: 4–8 hours. Furniture: 24 hours. Full cure: 72 hours. Rushing this is the second most common failure mode.
